Ear infections are a common condition that can affect both children and adults. They occur when the middle ear, located just behind the eardrum, becomes infected by a virus or bacteria. This leads to inflammation or fluid buildup, which can cause pain. Ear infections often result from the blockage of the eustachian tubes, and factors such as colds, allergies, smoking, or issues with the adenoids can contribute to this blockage.
Symptoms of an ear infection can vary but may include ear drainage, hearing loss, pain or pressure in the ear, and irritability in young children. While many ear infections are acute and resolve on their own without complications, recurring or particularly painful infections may require medical attention. If you experience frequent or severe ear infections, we encourage you to sched ule an appointment with our office for a thorough evaluation and appropriate treatment.
